eBay is coming out with a new app for iPad that lets you see stuff you can buy that is associated with TV shows. Here eBay VP Steve Yankovich (he runs the mobile group at eBay) shows me the app and then says something really interesting: that iOS still matters a lot more than Android to eBay's business. You can get all of eBay's apps, for both Android and iOS at http://mobile.ebay.com/
what's in it for broadcasters? Broadcasters own all the rights to monetize their content. They can't be ruled out of the equation.

Insightful interview. Steve is truly a visionary, it's going to be exciting to watch the progression of these technologies in the video field. It would be incredible to eventually see retailers like Ebay merge with innovative video tagging companies like ABID Technology, the possibilities are endless. Less friction = more action.

I also found it interesting how basically the whole conversation was about how do you drive a lot more traffic to ebay. And the coolest thing as he mentioned is that, you basically don't need to advertise ebay at this point, you just gotta work on different stuff (like the tv stream with metadata) which then just hooks into the ebay ecosystem and the next thing you know is that you bought something ;-) Exciting times for sure. Ebay's benefiting a LOT from mobile/smartphones/tablets.

Wow. Just wow. You can totally tell, that Ebay's putting a lot of though and a lot of effort into mobile and making sure that the mobile experience for the user is as smooth and frictionless as it can be. That part where he spoke about the frictionless discovery and buying experience and that little demo of that app was really cool. I'm sure in a few years you can walk around with your phone and just point your phone at stuff, the phone recognizes what it is, you just click buy and boom, done.
