Audio only. October 27, 2008, at the Tabernacle in Atlanta, GA. Vote for a change! Lyrics:

And the river opens for the righteous . . .
Someday

I was walking with my brother
And he wondered what's on my mind
I said I believe in my soul
Ain't what I see with my eyes
And we can't turn our backs this time

I am a patriot
And I love my country
Because my country is all I know
I want to be with my family
People who understand me
I've got nowhere else to go

And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
Someday

And I was talking with my sister
She looked so fine
I said, "Baby, what's on your mind?"
She said, "I want to run like the lion
Released from the cages
Released from the rages
Burning in my heart tonight"

And I ain't no communist
But I ain't no capitalist
And I ain't no socialist
But I ain't no imperialist
And I ain't no Democrat
But I ain't no Republican
I only know one party
And it is freedom

I am, I am, I am
I am a patriot
And I love my country
Because my country is all I know

Want to be with my family
People who understand me
I've got nowhere else to go

And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
And the river opens for the righteous
Someday . . .

Well there's three words that used to belong to everybody
Those words are patriot, liberal, and Christianity
But they took those words
Wrapped them in a flag and said
We own them now and you'll never get them back
And now it feels like we work harder every day
But the harder that we work the more we have to pay
And we can't afford to be sick but we're feeling quite strange
I guess the only thing to do is
Vote for a change

It's your thing
Do what you're gonna do
I can't tell you who to Barack it to

It's your thing
Do what you wanna do
I can't tell you who to Barack it to

It's your thing
Do what you wanna do now
I can't tell you who to Barack it to
Who to Barack it to

It's your thing
Do what you wanna do
We can't tell you who to Barack it to
Who to Barack it to

And the river opens for the righteous
Someday

  • Browne is just trying to do something nice- he doesnt exactly agree with everything Obama says but figures Obama is better than McCain who didnt even have the curtesy to obey copyright laws and used a Bronwe song without permission and used money to get out of it.

  • oh vomit. erasing all my jackson browne songs from my ipod now.

  • Thanks, but the credit should go to Mr. Van Zandt (the lyricist) and Mr. Browne. They help patriotism speak for itself!

  • Well said.
