A year after being rescued from a small cage in a Texas garage where he lived for 15 years, Fred Henry, today known as Henry, has recovered from his ordeal. He lives at Chimp Haven in northwest Louisiana.
I just saw this Animal Planey episode today. You could see that Fred is a very intelligent chimp. Probably more intelligent than a lot of people I know. @groovyroom. We don't even live in a society that worries about it's human residents. To expect them to worry about animals is a little too much to ask for. I' so happy to see Fred is doing so well.
Does anyone know if the owners were prosecuted? God I wish we had a government that cared more about animal welfare and less about greed. I'm so glad Henry was rescued but I want to kill the people who neglected and abused him. The only thing that comforts me is knowing that when they do meet their maker they will indeed pay!
chimp haven is the chimp eden of the usa!! Amazing work. And Im making a donation. And to think I wanted to travel to south africa! I have a Haven right here in the US I can visit and support.
@aliveinsd you obviously did not watch the Animal Planet episode where he was rescued. Typical of ignorant people, speak before thinking, writing before researching and learning. You Watch a short clip and make a swift determination? who is grandstanding?
This is heartbreaking. Thank you so much for rescuing Fred from the HELL he was in for all those years. Where are the horrible humans that allowed this continue for 15 years!!???
Yet another sad story to convince the federal government of The United States to ban chimps from public ownership. They deserve better than a solitary life in tiny cages. How one can have a negative opinion about this story is beyond my comprehension.

Evidently the ape wasn't in such bad shape to begin with. All the TV shows is an ape so terrified of the strangers around it that it spontaineously leaked feces and urine, while crying in a constant fear grin.
Doesn't Fred/Henry miss its owner? We have yet to hear the owner's story. Perhaps the animal had become too dangerous to approach, and the owner was afraid? Or, was this more a hanging, followed-up with grandstanding, rather than a rescue?
