regina spektor - Lucky Penny (Live)

Lyrics:

I didn't find a lucky penny
So I flipped it over
And left it for someone else to find
And a dime just in time
For the little kid behind me
To pick it up and yell,
Hey mom, I found a dime

Then I turned around the corner
And I dropped another dollar
Just in case the street needed some more cash
In the end, I made it home
With nothing in my pockets
Except some cigarettes and some stones

I pick them up when I go walking
Some are shiny, all are dirty
Some are just pebbles that might grow up to be stones
As an adult, no one can stop you
From getting your hands dirty
When you're walking home alone

Then I saw a little black cat
Cross the street before a fast cab
Flashed and disappeared into the night
He glanced back with understanding
Of a future life impending
and we both knew it wasn't his time yet

I didn't find a lucky penny
So I flipped it over
And left it for someone else to find
And a dime just in time
For the little kid behind me
To pick it up and yell,
Hey mom, I found a dime...

  • I've never seen a dislike on a recording of this song. -3

  • This song is so sweet, innocent and simple. Like all of her songs, it's vulnerable and honest. I love her.

  • LOVE.

  • Still grand!

  • She always talks about picking up stones in the streets. why she does that? haah i love regina, maybe she haves some obsesive compulsives disorders or she's just weird <3

  • I say this for just about every song by Regina I listen to, but this has GOT to be one of my favorite songs ever. But this song, in my opinion, just stands out, even from all of the rest of her genius. It's just so simple and heartfelt. I don't think you can listen and NOT be touched by the lyrics. Simply inspiring. Talk about paying it forward. Keep it up, Regina. You're making the world a better place one song at a time.

  • Regina would make the best mom ever.

  • What's funny is, that sounds like something she would do. Flip a penny over and leave it for someone else to find. And drop another dollar

Just in case the street needed some more cash. That sounds EXACTLY like the loving and kind Regina Spektor we know.
