Saunter being an old time dance is derived from the 'classic' old time dances such as Gavotte, Old Time Waltz, Mazurka etc... which is where the freeness of coming out of Ballroom hold comes from. The steps/figures listed for each dance are also different! Hope that helps and makes some sort of sense!

The major difference between slow foxtrot and saunter is the category which they fall in. Slow foxtrot is a ballroom dance and a Saunter is an Old Time or Classical Dance. Therefore, the main difference is that in any ballroom dance (waltz, quickstep, foxtrot, modern tango) ballroom hold is retained throughout whereas in any old time dance, the dancers move from ballroom hold to open hold or shadow hold etc.

I do agree that this piece of music does fit the dance particularly well and yes, slow foxtrot and saunter's do in the sequence dancing world follow a similar speed and tempo.

hello, enjoy every bit of it, well demonstrated...
lovely music...
Hi! I have never seen this sequence routine danced before, very nice! :) However, could I please ask why you are dancing a saunter to a piece of Foxtrot music? This is Gunter Noris: Foxtrot - "Slowly to Heaven". Just puzzled me a little!

@16Hepworth Thank you for your encouraging comments. We liked the piece of music and it fitted the dance particularly well. Saunters & Slow Foxtrots are around the same speed 28 and 29 bpm respectively. Can you explain the difference between these as I have often wondered where these differences are?
