@mity15 He did not think that he was going to live very long. He was sick and ha been gravely ill at several points in his life. He thought that if he had waited for the Presidency, he would never get it.

I wish he had never run for president not because I dont like him I think he was one of the greatest Presidents ever but he was young and had a family and his death left his poor children with no father andhis wife a widow, also look what happened to RFk 5 years later its all so so sad
Read your damn history. Bush started Iraq. Kennedy inherited Vietnam from Truman and Eisenhower. We were STOPPED from a nuclear war because he negotiated with Kruschev, which Bush would not have done. There is significant evidence now that he was already trying to get out of Vietnam as early as 1961 and 1962. Yes its true he escalated the conflict and overthrew Diem in 1963, but even after that he withdrew 1000 troops from Vietnam. Don't ever compare him to Bush.
