I am 48 and started having palpitations as well as a mini stroke about 2 months ago. I have been on Diltiazim and am going to be trying the Lopressor because I felt tired and out of breath taking the Dilt. Does anyone have experience taking this drug?

Im 25 and have fainting, chest pain, blackouts, and my pulse will jump to 200 while sitting. They perscribed me this medication, but im scared to start taking it cause it says it can cause a heart attack if u miss one or stop. Also im a smoker with a counsler trying to quit but... Im not one to even take asparin for anything, so taking a pill freaks me out a bit. I dont trust doctors much :( everything they had me on before made my throat close up.

I started having palpitations last December. My heart rate was over 200 bpm. I was put on a combo of 25 mg Metoprolol with Flecainide Acetate, just yesterday. But my blood pressure is typically 98/69. Kind of alarming...

@naive74 I have palpitations as well and my diagnoses was SVT. It is something where you brain puts out adrenalin even when you don't need it which causes your heart to go into a fast rate. Mine has gotten up to 245 beats per minute. So fast I was about to pass out. The holding the breath and bearing down like passing a bowl movement is called a vagal maneuver where you are resting your heart rate. You will always have the palpitations the key is not to stress over them. Mine come and go.

Also .... consider the beta blocker called Bisoprolol.....AKA Zebeta.... I found that to be the best one outta the pack for controlling my heart rate .... Metoprolol is good but I found Zebeta to be better..... it's the most Cardiospecific beta blocker out there.... ask your doc about that and consider trying it.

Hey no problem.... couple things to try ... if you jump into the fast rhythm even on the medication try getting on your knees.... hold your breath and flex your stomach muscles really tight while pushing out like your gonna have a bowl movement.... HOLD that for 15 -30 seconds at a time ... that can jump your heart out of the fast rhythm ..... my child hood cardiologist taught me that and it's worked for me ...
Her calming voice is enough to slow down my heart rate. She could make even more money by recording self hypnosis CD's to help you sleep at night.

Wow ... glad you found a drug that works for you! how much is your dose ? I"m on 100M a day 50 morning 50 at night ... I"ve been taking beta blockers for about 15 years now ... I"m athletic and actually am a personal trainer and have been for years. BUT my heart just like yours has electrical problems and I've had one ablation to block a pathway but still need the beta blockers ... whats your dosage ?
