seventh song from the album ' The Girl who couldn't Fly'
The elfin knight stands on yon hill
He blows his horn both loud and shrill
He stands so proud and he stands so still
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie

If I had the knight that stands on yon mound
My true love then surely I have found
Down to the church then soon we will be bound
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie

He'll make me a dress with seams of fine thread
Make me a garland of flowers for my head
Down to the church then away we'll go to bed
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie

The elfin knight stands on yon hill
Blowin' his horn both loud and shrill
He stands so proud and he stands so still
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie
Blow winds blow my bonnie o
Blow winds blow my bonnie

  • blow winds blow my bonnie o_o i dont understand...Wind is blowing her..what??does bonnie mean pony?

  • @albuorkka

ok, so the knight is standing on a hill, ok? the knight is the object of desire of the 'singer'.

using an old scottish phrase, she thinks he's bonny, IE she thinks he's attractive.

its an old pet name for someone you love

    my bonnie= my sweetheart

and he's standing on a hill so chances are that the wind is blowing against him

  • I love the song, and thanks for the lyrics as well - and a charming slideshow.

I like how the narrator stipulates that the knight has to make her an AWESOME DRESS.

That's the real measure of a man:

1.) how good he looks on a mound,

2.) he blows his horn both loud and shrill,

3.) HE MAKES YOU AN AWESOME DRESS

Thank you, Kate, for showing us the way.

  • @evolutionofaudrey thanks for your very kind comment.

your agreement about what makes a fine man made me laugh

  • @lifeasdevil i think it used to be called clatterford

  • @edwardlover12398 Clatterford? Its called jam and jerusalem. but thats why I found it aswell

  • @dogstar75 ...teehee... now that was funny... *giggles* Good explanation.. lolz......

  • when i listen to this song it makes me think of tash's and spikes wedding on the tv show clatterford

  • nice song , didnt know the singer

  • in french they say "t'es bonne" to women...(it means "you're good")its a rather crude way to say they're pretty...

maybe bonnie and bonne have common origin....
