Young people account for an alarming proportion of new cases of sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and HIV.
At least one-half (50%) of all new HIV infections in the U.S. are estimated to be among those under 25.
Three out of four (75%) of Chlamydia occurs in people under the age of 25.
Teens (ages 12-19) are five times more likely to have herpes (HSV 2). The largest increase in herpes is in young, white teens.
Most cases of syphilis occur in people between the ages 20-39.
For information about how to reduce your risk of STIs go to the MARS (Male Advocates for Responsible Sexuality) Program website at: http://askmars.org.
