This is just me playing with my new zendrum (It came on Valentines day so I've only had it two days, be kind!)

Check out the makers here: www.zendrum.com

I'm just playing with what might be the drum track to the proposal song (original performance in another youtube video of mine). Sounds are BFD2 and it's a VERY rough mix of the song (as you can hear, I'm just fooling around). I'm not good at transitioning between the beats yet, but practicing!

  • Great vid - Were you a percussionist before you got on the zendrum? I'm considering buying one, and I'm wondering about the learning curve for a (mostly) non-drummer.

  • I'm a hobbyist percussionist at best. I tend to drum with my hands ALL the time (to the annoyance of family/friends). Due to the dynamic nature of the Zendrum (how it's just midi and you can map it any way you want) I got up and running pretty quickly.

I wouldn't worry, if you want to learn, you want to learn :)

  • Great stuff man ... what sound module r u using ... is it like BFD2 or EZ Dummer .. ur laptop must be a fast one?

  • That's BFD2, just one of the presets so no work done on it. I'll post the real song soon when I finish it (still working on it).

That was my work laptop. Lenovo X61s (Intel Core 2 Duo, 2 gigs of ram, pretty nice machine) but due to sound card issues I upgraded my personal machine to a Apple Macbook Pro with a Apogee Duet sound card and I'm VERY happy with it.

  • Thanks mate .... i'm also looking to buy a ZX soon (once I put enought coins into my piggy bank!). I have a HP with Intel Centrino Duo (1.83Ghz & 2GB ram) ... do you think it will be OK to run BDF2 or EZ Drummer? Look forward to checking out your new song ... cheers & keep it up!

  • Spec wise it sounds ok, but due to the 2gig of ram instead of 4 it might be tough if you were going to record at the same time / start multitracking. More important than those values is hard drive speed (if you are planning on installing BFD or EZdrummer to your drive) and sound card quality. Best place to start is the BFD/EZDrummer recommended specs.
