The Kasiisi Primary School has started a program aimed at feeding its pupils who, in the past, studied without any food all day.
The program involves a group of cooks prepare a large quality of maize porridge which the children are served around 1pm each day.
The porridge is sometimes the only meal the students have all day.
The program has helped reduce truancy rates, while boosting academic results and class energy levels in the afternoon.
Teachers and school administrators agree the program has helped make the school far more successful.
The program has also assisted in a dormitory being built for students who travel long distances each day. When completed the dorm rooms will house students who would benefit from staying at school instead of walking home every day.
