Description: This 3-part series shows you how to model architectural metallic components. You'll be shown different techniques that will take you through trough simple yet efficient spline modeling, and the use of renderable splines to model wrought-iron designs in the first movie. Later, you will experiment with other techniques to build more complex components, such as beams, trusses and curtain walls.

  • How do you snap the extensions' start points to the L line at 3:02?

  • @DominoCreativeStuff Actually, I'm not snapping them in this case, just getting close. At any rate, if you do want to be "snap"-accurate, then you can set your snap to use both "Vertex" and "Edge/Segment" modes. That would have the effect you want.

  • what is autogrid ?

  • @beatboxsimchayaffa Autogrid is an option that lets you build an object directly on the surface of another, instead of building the object on the default construction plane and then move it into position.

  • I don't see how the grid he made at the beginning made any difference to what he did? Can anyone explain it's purpose?

  • @taverlisk the grid was made and activated so that objects you create are created ON THAT construction grid. If you don't do that, you'd need to move the splines in space after you created them. If you move the splines after you created them, AND THEN decide to create more splines, those would have to be moved as well, otherwise, the two sets of splines will not be on the same plane.
