SINGAPORE: MP for Marine Parade GRC, Tin Pei Ling, made her maiden speech on the final day of the Parliament debate, appealing for help for both the old and the young.

Ms Tin has urged the government to consider providing free basic healthcare to elderly Singaporeans in the public healthcare setting. She said elderly issues are close to her heart as one in three residents in her MacPherson ward is aged over 50 years old.

She also related her experiences of speaking with elderly residents, saying many of them do not always understand the different schemes and help available to them.

Ms Tin suggested strengthening communications, and offering financial counselling and advisory on payment options to help them make a more informed decision.

On youths, Ms Tin said while young people know that earlier generations have done a lot of good for Singapore, they also want to forge their own paths ahead.

She said: "The government and society need not overreact to the loud and sometimes strident debate, especially over the internet. Robust debate or even disagreement on issues shows that young people are genuinely concerned about the future of Singapore.

"We should let things take their natural course. Young people will gradually figure out for themselves the way forward, by trying out new ideas and working out which sacred cows can be slayed, and ultimately pushing the boundaries of what Singapore can achieve."

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports said more can be done to enhance home-based care for the elderly.

Speaking in Parliament, Minister of State for Community Development, Youth and Sports, Halimah Yacob, said that an integrated homecare model has been piloted to serve this group with multiple care needs.

MCYS said it also recognises the importance of training foreign domestic workers, to help families cope with the demands of caregiving. Between January 2010 to September this year, some 2,300 caregivers have benefited from a training grant - and almost all of them were foreign domestic workers.

  • If only there were a system for the people to fire politicians like her.

  • .MacPherson has a large number of elderly and poorer households.

I wonder what the elderly and poorer household will think of her when they discover how much she gets every month comparatively to how much they barely have to feed themselves!

No, doesn't even speak well enough. Pr'aps she doesn't use English at home so it sounds irksome and jerky. The overdramatic hand gestures and overbaked face expressions are just overdone to the max.

  • Somehow, the title of this video has become misleading because of our bad impression of tpl. I was quite shocked when I saw the title but after watching, I realized she was actually defending online debates and that the govt should let the debates continue and not overreact and try to shut people up or silence the debates.

  • she looks like a teenager pretending to be a grown up =.= who speaks like this??? i support PAP but seriously they need to boot her out asap

  • @strykeryker Too late, thanks to concerned Singaporeans, Malaysians know what bad qualities in an MP to look out for. Just Youtube "Jessie Ooi" for added reference.

Malaysians will pray and continue support towards democratic reform for Singapore!

  • I can't imagine what Asean and other Western leaders would think of this "I-don't-know-what-to- say" person.. I hope they don't get to see her, she would be just too, too embarrassing for Singaporeans. "We "just don't know what to say."

I can't imagine what David Gregory as moderator of “Meet the Press” would say being in the same room with her. We just don't know what to say.

  • Tin Pei Ling should have continued her ordinary life. Her presence in the GE brought down the PAP's credibility, especially in Marine Parade GRC.

  • fuckk u

  • Wasted 1min 26seconds for knowing nothing.. 👜👜👜
