an overview of KK Slider remix mistakes people make. Often it's just laziness or unawareness, so here's a list of things which makes KK Slider remixes sound bad or cheap. I do this because the KK Slider songs playlist has reached the 200 songs limit Youtube puts on a youtube playlist.
The song played is the GTA Vice City Title screen and 0:41 is an ear rape so be warned. The good version will be done later :)
mistake 1: KK Slider's voice
often it's just laziness.
- You hear KK Slider sing more than once simulatenously.
- Volume of his voice is lower than instrument
- His voice is just one tone, like only using 'now' or only using 'me'
- Wrong octave. KK Slider's voice is just too low(sounding like Tay Zonday) or too high(sounding like chipmunks). In both cases KK Slider's soundfont is not made for it.
Mistake 2: Voice clipping
- The sound is rendered too loud and it causes the sound to clip. If you listen to the example it's overdone, since it's the master volume that's too loud.
- In most cases it's just one channel that's clipping, like KK Slider's whistling or a few guitar notes that are forte fortissimo which KK slider's soundfont can't handle well.
Mistake 3: Lazy midi editing
It sounds unrealistic because of this:
- Midi channels have different chorus and reverb settings and it makes no sense if his guitar is playing with different chorus and reverb settings
- Too many instruments. A virtuoso guitar player can play 2-3 rhythms at the same time, so don't let him play all riffs. It's even better to remove a subtle rhythm then to keep it and make it sound like a cheap midi+soundfont rendering.
- panning. I would only keep that if it's typical for the song(final battle against Lavos for example). In other cases it sounds weird since an acoustic guitar player can't play with panning.
- long notes. KK Slider's instrument doesn't have decay. This means long notes sound unnatural and not like a guitar. I often make long notes tremolo(listen to KK Slider remix of Thriller at the start).
o.o
i know some of my older songs have the whole octave problem, like the first 6 or 7 of them, though a song like hartman's youkai girl that has notes that strech a little too far out making some part of the song not make much sense.
i think captain murasa is my only song thats just way too loud,Lunar Dial the guitar is OP, and part of Starwolf has clashing vocals.though ive fixed most of that in their mp3s...
kinda forgot what else i was gonna say, anyways good stuff.

well, sometimes you can transpose the song one or 2 tones to fix that( i did that in yesterday, thriller, beat it, etc.)
Also the whistling and howling has a higher pitch range. Plus you can mask that you transpose an octave by letting him whistle those parts.

Umm...no...you can just make another playlist...
CarboKill 2 years ago
yes, but the playlist is sorted on number of views and since the movies with few views are relative low-quality i'm better off without them

Lies! :P
Why not just remake them, but better!

because other people remake those and it sounds so arrogant if i only add my own songs in the playlist :)
