Welcome To The Vortex - Tibetan Translator Peter Alan Roberts. Part 2 0f 3. This is host Dr. Mattie Klare's interview with the Welsh-born author Peter Alan Roberts. 2007. Oxford student Peter talks about his scholarly work, The Biographies of Rechungpa: The Evolutions of a Tibetan Hagiography (also co-author of: On Buddha Essence: A Commentary on Rangjung Dorje's Treatise with Kenchen Thrangu and Clark Johnson), contemporary Tibetan life, his screenwriting and mentions his recent translation for Neten Chokling Rinpoche, director and co-author of the feature film Milarepa. You will not see this version on the air because it will be edited to fit into their 30-minute time-slot. Enjoy!

More about THE BIOGRAPHIES OF RECHUNGPA:
Rechung-pa (1084 to 1161) is a Tibetan folk-hero whose biography is one of the most well-known literary works in Tibet. This book traces the lifestory of Rechungpa - student of the famous teacher Milarepa. Using rare and little-known manuscripts, the author reveals how the image of both Milarepa and Rechungpa underwent fundamental transformations over a period of over three centuries. This is the first survey of the surviving literature which includes a detailed analysis of their dates, authorship and interrelationships. It shows how Rechungpa was increasingly portrayed as a rebellious, volatile and difficult pupil, as a lineage from a fellow-pupil prospered to become dominant in Tibet. Accessible to broad readership, Roberts' book is of great value to anyone with an interest in the fields of Tibetan literature, history or religion.
