♡♡♡Structure of Hair Part 2 - pH Balance Basics

I am not for or against silicone. Here is why:

Silicones close the cuticles and help to hold moisture in, but they can also keep moisture out. You will often hear people talk about silicones being "chemicals" but in reality they are less harmful (less toxic) than many preservatives used in "natural" products. Natural products must be preserved. People often cite Vitamin E (tocopherol) as a natural preservative but that is partially incorrect. Vitamin E is an "anti-oxidant". It helps to keep oils from going rancid. Vitamin E can't preserve everything. Hence the "phenoxyethanols, dmdm hydantoins & parabens" in so many products.

Think of silicones as what they are-- liquid plastic. They are hydrophobic. Most of them repel water.

The downside to silicones is that there are so many kinds. And some require different types of harsh (sulfate) detergents to remove. Left on for long periods of time and especially when exposed to direct sun, silicones can make the hair dried out and crunchy feeling.

Products with silicones will help your hairstyles to last longer because again, they seal out moisture. Water is the "reset" button for our hair. So many of us run away from water because we don't want to "mess up" our hairstyles. Unfortunately, this is the reason so many of us have dry, weakened hair, that breaks off and never seems to grow.

Many of you have asked me how to make your hairstyles last longer (in reference to my Corinne Bailey Rae inspired hairstyle) The style doesn't last more than a day because I used "natural" products (shea butter & aloe vera gel) You must understand that most "natural" products do not have long holding properties. So consider using silicone products if you simply MUST keep your style longer. Again, they keep moisture out and keep your hair intact for longer periods.
Just be aware. I have no personal vendetta against products. LOL. I actually find people like that to be quite silly.

What you decide to put on your hair is a personal choice. I am a common sense natural. I think you should wear your hair however you like and as often as you'd like. Use the information available to help yourself.

The goal should be mastery of your own hair.

Why were the ratings disabled - aren't you always encouraging people to rate? Were there too many thumbs down? I liked the video, but I'm just wondering...I tried to "like" it and it said the ratings were disabled.

lol. You're late to the party. Ratings are only open within the first few days of a videos launch. I keep them open long enough to get honors and then after that they're disabled.

Youtube's rating system is useless after the first few days. So I lock in my high ratings and then it is shut down. And no, considering that I made it all the way to #2 on the top rated list it was a pretty good day. :o)

OMG...Ms Kimmaytybe...KUDOS to you...your are the master of natural hair. I have been performing protective syles on my hair and my 11 year old daughter, along with all your techniques for shampooing, conditioning, and how to properly detangle your hair. With all that I have learned and still learning from you, my hair within 2 wks has grown 2 inches already. Before my hair would come to the very top of my collar bone, now it's way past it. I couldn't belive it. Thank you !!

the most important thing that matters with hair is the rinse during conditioning. I have been washing with baking soda and water mixture and growing my hair for a year... it matters not. These rules are so funny. I know people with long hair that still use petroleum and mineral oil. It's really a combination of things that one would have to do in order to have unhealthy hair, its not one thing.
