Choosing Chook, Behind The Scenes of Last Ride pt 1

Casting the 10 year old to play Chook was the single biggest decision in making Last Ride. Chook is in just about every scene in the film and we needed to find a child who could not only perform, but one who could handle the rigours of a six week shoot away from home. After and extensive search we found our way to Tom Russell in the suburbs of Adelaide. We bought him over to Melbourne for a weekend of screen tests. Day 1 saw us out in the country where we tested some of the harder scenes in the middle of the bush. Day 2 was in the office...
