http://thechampionschallenge.com - Teamwork, heart and determination are forces of nature that are tough to stop. And, the 89-90 team showed just how tough. Baskets come and go... but the character these guys displayed lasts forever.

  • 89-91 maybe the best years in NCAA tournament history

  • Thanks for the memories LMU. I grew up a UNLV fan in Vegas, and loved watching the 2 most exciting teams in college hoops go head to head. Watching 2 squads rack up a combined 232 points in 40 minutes of basketball... what a privilege. RIP Hank

  • Dam tragedy what happened to Hank Gathers

  • tont walker is my uncle

  • Nov., 1990 A.D. was my favorite times. This was my favorite team. I met Bo on an autograph in ballpoint. The arm cuff machine sinched up on me. It COMMANDED me to go to the hospital across the street to treat my Pulminary Arrhythmia. It said my name! Oct., 2007 I watched a WHOLE HOUR of Glenn Beck. I felt like he was very liberal. My G-Ma died of arrhythmia.

  • @esquire. I agree with you it was some shady business going on during that NCAA tournament because in my mind duke should have lost that game becasue UNLVs depth did nt really change that much from the previuos year. Also if hank gather did nt succumb they would have beat UNLV or UNLV would have barely eased by them by the skin of there teeth.

  • Powerful

  • This team was fun to watch, but they could NEVER have beaten UNLV. The Runnin' Rebels beat Loyola by 11 in the first game of the '90 seasopn when they had Gathers, by 30 when they didn't. The run n' gun offense only worked when played against teams that weren't as athletic/conditioned . Running the floor was what UNLV liked to do, so Loyola only helped them out by playing their game

  • Loyola was just a fun to watch. Probably a tad excessive offensively, but what a blast staying up late and watching them on ESPN.

  • I really do believe, if Hank Gathers didn't die, they could have won it all
