United Ways Young Leaders make a difference with the Boys and Girls Club of Brampton

(Brampton, Ontario October 16, 2010)

Members of United Way of Peel Regions Young Leaders Council mobilized to help the Boys and Girls Club of Peel Region with community projects in Brampton on Oct. 16. A group of 20 volunteers spent the day helping to clean up community gardens and to build wooden storage units as part of the United Ways National Day of Caring, a national initiative to engage people to make difference in their communities by volunteering with a community agency.

"The Day of Caring is an opportunity for the Young Leaders Council to get actively involved in some community projects as part of a national plan", said Monika Platek, chair of the Young Leaders Council. "We partnered with the Boys and Girls Club to help with one of their community gardens in Brampton, and to build some wooden pieces for their programs."

"Partnerships with groups like the Young Leaders Council provides the Boys and Girls Club with the opportunity leverage some of their expertise with programs that we offer to the community", said Trish Marinoni, program director with the Boys and Girls Club of Peel Region. "Today is about more than just volunteering. It is the beginning of a long lasting partnership. There are some volunteers here today that have interest and experience things such as dancing and are interested in teaching others. With their help, we can offer additional programs that will benefit the community."

The Young Leaders Council is a group of individuals aged 20-35 years old who are active and emerging leaders working together to promote the engagement of our generation within Peel Region. We empower Peel's emerging leaders to strengthen the community and inherit the future of United Way of Peel Region.
