This is part four of a lecture by Imam Shakeel Begg and Brother Ilyas Townsend on the fitnah of the neo-salafi movement. For many years scholars and students of knowledge have tried to indirectly deal with this problem of the neo-salafis, but their fitnah has grown do to not addressing it head-on.
This group has appeared in modern times and there is still great confusion and 'fitnah' surrounding it. A very basic definition of salafiyyah is to follow the Qur'an and Sunnah with the understanding of the Prophet , his companions and the Salaf us-Salih (Pious predecessors). There is nothing wrong with the definition of 'salafiyyah'. The term neo-salafiyyah has been used for this lecture because 'shuyukh', 'students of knowledge', brothers and sisters have added concepts and characteristics to salafiyyah to the point that when a person a hears the term 'salafi', their beliefs, thoughts, feelings, assumptions etc. are often indirect opposition to what salafiyyah is.
How is it a person can associate bad manners, following of a few scholars and no connection with the worldwide ummah (just to name a few) with salafiyyah?

Excellent. I have been thinking about all these for the past few months. This brother hit the nail on the head. Excellent refutation.
