One of the summits of human civilisation. They can play this at my funeral. (It's Eugen Jochum with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, an unbeaten performance, IMO).

@linguistmuz I cannot get enough of this adagio and of similar pieces such as the Poco Adagio of the Organ Symphony; they bring tears to my eyes.
-
Mahler conducted the premiere of this symphony after Bruckner's death. In my opinion, the coda of this Adagio was quite influential on Mahler's later Adagios, particularly on the Adagio of the Ninth.

@Haidimbya Yes! I noticed this the very first time I heard this wonderful movement.

I'll bet Bernstein was thinking of this movement when he wrote Somewhere -- recognize the horn melody? ("There's a place for us...")

Can I fall into pieces now? So beautiful...
what a moving coda. I treasure Bruckner for such passionate yet intimate feelings.
