THREE doors: The one on the left is blank, the one in the middle has a male bathroom sign hanging on it, and the one on the right has a female bathroom sign. We used a hidden camera inside a backpack to capture it.

The experiment was to see if people would go through their own specified gender-ed door out of sheer Social conformity. (don't want people to think you're a girl if you're NOT!)

  • Great idea adding the 3rd door into the mix. Adds a whole new dimension to the experiment. Great video, especially the Mario sound effects. Great work!

  • @JrDriver85 Hey thanks Mr. Big dog with 130,000 views. ;) I really don't remember replying my vid to yours. I was just checking my stats and saw a lot of views came from yours and checked it out. It was pretty sweet. We were thinking it would be funny to put a question mark sign on the third door to make the conformity even stronger. but again. Thanks.

  • This needs to be followed up with intrviews asking people if they notice the signs. If they say "no" then ask why they passed the nearest door and went the gendered door. Also asking why they chose the blank door (if they did).

  • @HerbACC that would definitely make it more credible, but it is what it is.

  • @hardbed Question:

How come when People came out of the left door you didn't count them, but if they came out of the other two (and their genders matched the signs on the door) you did?

Great Experiment!! I love the music too, what is it?! :)

  • Holy shit, School of the Obese?

  • Well the first student 'conformist' was in a wheel chair and had no choice but to use the automatic door... but this was fun to watch

  • @lorenzosdreams well the extraneous variable is that there is nothing at all on one door. You have two gendered doors and one completely untreated door. A better (for lack of a better word) experiment would have two gendered doors and one completely neutral door that would involve still having paper taped to it, just without any sort of gender associated with it (ie, it would be blank).

  • This would be better if there was a blank white sheet of paper on the third door to eliminate another extraneous variable, I think.

  • @hardbed Definitely, still a great illustration of human behavior (now just need to find the mental process ;o)
