I rode the hook alot in the 60's and it's much easier now to ride because of water pollution. The kelp was so thick back then that you could walk across it 365 days a year. The bottom was covered with live and so many fish that they bumped into you. Now out there?

If you paddle out to first bowl and Shannon tells you to go to second or sharks. Dont do it. If you do, you might as well chop your nuts off. First Bowl is one of the greatest waves in Santa Cruz. Ya know what else. The "king" is a transplant from Sunnyvale.
