The artist known as Nickey Barclay is best recognized for her work as keyboardist/vocalist/songwriter during the '70s in the groundbreaking, all female rock band Fanny and, before that, Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen band for a brief stint.

After leaving Fanny, Nickey pursued a career as a solo artist. She recorded her one and only solo album Diamond in a Junkyard in 1976. Her version of "That's the Kind of Love I've Got for You," a song also covered by the late legendary Dusty Springfield, was released later as a non-LP single—recorded during a different session and with a different producer (Brookes Arthur). In this disco-inspired pop rock tune, Nickey's vocals are particularly passionate and soulful here. Unfortunately, Nickey's album and song didn't garner the audience that her talent deserved. Ms. Barclay continued to write songs and perform her music mainly in pubs.

As presented here, "That's the Kind of Love I've Got for You" has been remixed for 2008 by DJ toomuch (Jim Frye); and the accompanying picture slide show tribute to Nickey Barclay and her career has been created by me. Special thanks goes to Paul for providing the original recording.

Lyrics to "That's the Kind of Love I've Got for You"
(written by D. Fletcher / D. Parks as interpreted by Nickey Barclay)

Oh mountain high (mountain high)
Valley low (valley low)
Strongest than the strongest and even more
Running deep, honey, as deep can go
Can even turn your darkest clouds to falling snow

Chorus:
That's the kind of love I got for you, yeah
That's the kind of love I got for you
I can't help myself
I just can't help myself
Ive been lovin you so much, honey
Just can't help myself

Like falling water on desert sand
Making flowers grow on barren land
Ever growin' and growin' long
Heaven only knows just how much it grows

Chorus:
That's the kind of love I got for you, yeah
That's the kind of love I got for you, ohhhh
Thats the kind of love I got for you-honey, honey
Thats the kind of love I got for you
I can't help myself
I can't help myself
Ive been needing you so much, honey
Just can't help myself

I'm playing with fire
Oooh, I've lost control
This lovely feeling burns to my very soul
Burning hot, as hot as I can go
Can't seem to help myself
Just got to let you know that

Chorus:
That's the kind of love I got for you, yeah
That's the kind of love I got for you, wooh
That's the kind of love I got for you
That's the kind of love I got for you, yeah

That's the kind of love I got
That's the kind of love I got
That's the kind of love I got
That's the kind of love I got
That's the kind of love I got
That's the kind of love I got
That's the kind of love I got
That's the kind of love I got for you, ah
Honey, Honey, yeah
I just cant help myself
Love you so much baby.

Just cant help myself, you know

  • @dylanpemberton i worked at sound city in van nuys when she recorded this album, lost my vinyl in a basement flood. miss it. i remember michael quatro was there at the same time, trying to schedule sessions seperately was tough. can you upload any of "diamond in a junkyard" ? i'd love to hear some again

  • Terrible recording...song is not so great either, but this woman had a great soulful voice. One of the most under-rated singers in history. A really good songwriter, too.
