High-quality tube type Stereo receiver made by RCA's electron tube division. It is higher quality and more sophisticated than the usual RCA Victor consumer products. Has a Nuvistor FM RF amplifier stage and 6973 output tubes. I just finished replacing all the electrolytic capacitors and just need to install a fuse holder and will be ready to take home and use.

  • Armstrong would be proud! The FM is very much noise free compared to the AM! Too bad that so most of the programming on radio is crap!

  • hey in AM the variable capacitor uses 3 stages, good project first time i see a receiver thats uses independent AM FM blocks

  • Wow, that's a really nice stereo. I'm glad that you were able to save it from the unforgiving clutches of the landfill.

    Matt

  • @RetroCaptain Actually there was, in the 1950s before FM multiplex was invented a method of transmitting stereo was one channel on AM and the other on FM.

  • What a marvelous thing you've done--restoring that wonderful stereo amp.

I have a Sansui G7700 that both left and right channels have once again gone out. They tell me the parts are no longer available, but I hate to get rid of it anyway.

Hopefully one day I'll come across someone as knowledgeable as you to fix it.

  • People are so numb when it comes to this stuff, why would you just throw it out? Glad you staved it Chad

  • Magnificently constructed receiver! Big output transformers and nice Nuvistor FM front end!

  • What were the advantages of the Nuvistor? Was it a space saving thing or a performance thing? Speaking of dumpster scoring. I found 48 Ck722's and 8 Nuvistor 6CW4's a couple of years ago at a retired Defense plant engineer's trash pile. I continued to go back every week. Turns out the surviving son lived next door to his mom ( the wife of the former worker). In his spare time he was sorting through the stuff & organizing ( baby food jars etc.). Was pitching out boxes w/ mice droppings.2Bcont.?

  • @RetroCaptain Yes, the Pilot 602 has an option on the selector knob that allows the AM & FM Tuners to play at the same time simultaneously. Do some more research on the Pilot 602 you will see what I mean. I can eventually make a video of it playing both bands at the same time for you but that won't be for a while as I have to dig it out of storage.

  • @ShitFromShinolla Good day, There never was such a thing as "Stereo broadcast reception, via use of both AM & FM bands at the same time.... he is perhaps like the singer in this vid who claims "Ocean front property in Arizona". It was a fancy fad back then..a neat looking style, like dual exhaust on an automobile.. If you could put a vid of your receiver playing AM/FM at the same time, let me know.. The multiplex unit enables your set to play stereo FM signals. There used to be AM stereo.
  • cool. that is a EM84 magic eye, right?

  • Wow!! Never saw anything like this. Bless those guys at the Sarnoff center back then.
