  • It's funny how this concerto is one big amalgam of influences. You can hear the virtuosity of Liszt, the clarity of Mozart, the jazz-style of Gershwin, while altogether remaining solely Ravel's. Thanks for posting!

  • Every note, every nuance is exactly in place. The perfection of his playing is the excitement. The conductor and orchestra were exactly correct. This is a legendary performance.

  • Love the way Ravel makes both piano and orchestra sparkle like stars in

the sky! Thank you for posting and to paulostroff for sharing!

  • @haakonsb -Rubinstein is correct about Ravel's orchestrating abilities. Gershwin himself had asked Ravel to orchestrate one of his works.Ravel thinking so highly of the work as it was -that he told him that it need not be tampered with. Point was that Gershwin thought so highly of Ravel's orchestrating ability.

  • I love the camerawork in this. Zipping around to everyone.

  • In the beginning, I notice some of stravinsky's work... :)

  • From what I have read, Ravel got most his insperation from Mozart and Saint-Saens more lightgarted and ellegant pano concerto opposed to the heavy romntic ones like, Rachmaninov,Grieg and Brahms. The seccond movent is inspired by a mozart clarinet quintet 2mvnt, and in an interview with Artur Rubenstein,Rubinstein saies that Ravel loved Saint-Saens piano concertos, and thath he tought that He was one of the finest orchestrator to ever live, not small words from a guy today considered in the top

  • @Pavlvs34 That's right. I forgot about Jeux D'eaux.
