Personally, I find it extremely effective on the slow-moving variety: a little more heft than a machete, but less tiring and more hpm (hacks per minute) than an axe or similarly heavy hacking blades.
As for the fast-moving variety, if you're one-on-one, you're golden with your trusty golok. If you're ambushed by a group of fasties though, you'd best supplement your golok with an automatic firearm. Don't waste ammo though: thin and weaken with gun, then finish mercilessly with golok.
