What happens when the media fails to protect a confidential source?

When the media agrees to protect the identity of a confidential source, it is bound by that promise. A negligent or intentional failure to make sure that the source remains anonymous is a wrong for which the media is accountable. As this video demonstrates, people who speak to the media confidentially are often heroes, who speak out to protect the public.
