Gay is the author of TWILIGHT, THE LONG HOME and I HATE TO SEE THAT EVENING SUN GO DOWN: COLLECTED STORIES. • I think WIlliam Gay is fantastic, and he is personally an inspiration to me as a non-college educated southerner trying to find a literary voice out here in the hinterlands. However, to suggest that he is as good as any living writer is to suggest that Cormac McCarthy is no longer alive.

  • This guy is a genius. An absolute genius. I have the good fortune of having talked with him a few times and spent a couple of hours at his home. He's as good or better than any living writer. And as someone else said way before I ever did, he's better than a bunch of dead ones, too. Take my advice and read every word this writes.
