Since our founding in 1999, the Foundation for Individual Rights in Education (FIRE) has fought to defend the First Amendment on campus and protect students and faculty members whose freedom of expression is in jeopardy. The following video reviews five of the worst cases in our history, and provides a glimpse at the various threats to freedom on campus and the means that FIRE uses to combat them. A special thanks to Mr. Lawrence Post for making this video possible. For more information on these cases or on FIRE's work, visit thefire.org. Music by Jason Shaw at audionautix.com.

I praise FIRE for its power to overcome the problems for college students.

The scary thing about these incidents taken together --- and the current one at University of Wisconsin--Stout ---- is the ignorance on the part of university administrators of the limits of their authority and the extent of their students' and faculty's liberties established by the Bill of Rights.

That such levels of ignorance of basic American Constitutional history are apparently widespread among public university administrators [and some faculties] I find appalling.

It's mostly men in this video and everywhere, who defend basic constitution rights. Since the gov run war on fathers and on men in general that goes on all across the land

"conservative" or "insufficiently tolerant" is now a crime. We now have Marxists running the country

I was threatened over the loudspeaker at my community college because I'm an atheist. They terrified an entire campus to get at me.

If there is one thing I hate it is me being censored. I don't care as much if someone is angry at me or call me names.

Most college administrators are essentially no different from career politicians. That should scare most anyone when you think about it.

Democracy and Freedom of Speech is not a natural human condition. Rights must be continuously fought for, doing so is an integral part of what makes our system works. FIRE is an important part of this process.

FIRE was amongst those protesting the “Dear Colleague” letter(DCL) issued by the DOE, Office of Civil Rights(OCR), instructing schools to abandon the use of “reasonable doubt” standard in sexual assault cases & instead use the less stringent “preponderance of evidence” std.

On Nov 30, 2012, Russlyn Ali, head of OCR (& author of that DCL- which would deny due process to those accused), stepped down from her post.

dunno if she stepped down as result of protests,or even if that DCL was withdrawn
