The final twelve verses of the 2nd chapter of the Glorious Holy Qur'an - Sura 'Al-Baqarah', meaning 'The Cow'.

Theme and Subject Matter for verses 261-283

The theme of 153 - 251 has been resumed and the Believers have been exhorted to spend in the way of Allah in order to please Him alone. In contrast to this, they have been warned against the evils of lending money on interest. Instructions have also been given for the honest conduct of day-to-day business transactions.

Theme and Subject Matter for verses 284-286

The basic articles of the Faith have been recapitulated here at the end of the Surah, just as they were enunciated at its beginning. Then the Surah ends with a prayer which the Muslim Community needed very much at that time when they were encountering untold hardships in the propagation of the Guidance.

  • I'm confused.. it says 'they women have rights similar to those men.. then it says and men are a degree above.. ayat 228

can someone tell me the context or wisdom of this?

  • @IamMissHuman Assalaamu alaykum.

The Ayah states that women have rights with regards to their husbands, as do men have rights with regards to their wives. However, as Ayah 34 of Surah anNisa explains that "Men shall take full care of women with the bounties which Allah has bestowed more abundantly on the former than the latter, and with what they may spend out of their possesions..." Thus, Ayah 228 continues to explain that men bear a greater degree of responsibility than women in such matters

  • @LearnTruthFindPeace so it's referring to responsibility?

from all the religions i have been researching i have realised that the foundation of muslim relationships is rather perfect wth regards to both husband and wife. what a nice message.. as too compared to other faiths which i have encountered... :) thank u for that explanation

  • @IamMissHuman

"....Today have I perfected your religious law for you, and have bestowed upon you the full measure of My blessings, and willed that self-surrender unto Me shall be your religion...." [Qur'an, 5:3]

    may Allah bless you
