H2onews participated in the first-ever award ceremony held in honor of the best students of the communications department of the Pontifical Gregorian University.
The ceremony was held on the occasion of World Communications Day. The Interdisciplinary Centre for Social Communications of the Pontifical University in Rome wanted to distribute the prizes to show appreciation for their top students.
The Centre asked prominent organizations in Catholic media to give out the awards to the students. The prizes were awarded in order to encourage the students in their studies and to motivate them to be successful professionals.
The Vatican Radio, ZENIT internet news agency, and La Croix, a French daily newspaper, all participated in the event. They represented the most experienced agencies in the fields of radio, internet, and newspaper.
The winners at this award ceremony were Ioan Boer of Romania, Arcadius Sawadogo of Burkina Faso, Aji Georges from India, Andriy Kozlov of the Ukraine and Stéphane Jourdain from France. Andrea Scorzoni, co-founder of H2onews, handed out the prizes to the winners of the video and multimedia categories. Silvia Costantini and Jesús Colina, co-founders of H2onews, also attended the award ceremony.
As well, Mass was held before the award ceremony, celebrated by Monsignor Paul Tighe, Secretary of the Pontifical Council for Social Communications. He prayed during Mass that the Church would make good use of the media and new technologies available today.
