Almost all camera's mic don't handle well audio from concerts (the HX9V's mic in fact are very good comparing to others, but still have problems), then I started using an external recorder.
The Zoom H1 is very good for the task - small (if there's a security check in the entrance, they probably won't bother about it), affordable, light, and you just have to stay with it in your hand during the gig, like I was in this show.

@NoBusquesAca The Zoom H1 settings were:
- WAV 16bit - 44.1 Khz (or 48 khz, I don't remember)
- Manual recording level (the Auto setting could cause level problems if there's a moment of silence before a song start)
- Lo Cut switch in position OFF (I have to try it in ON position to see if it gets a better dynamic range)
Audio processing was just an pass in Equalizer in Sony Vegas and a little compression for the peaks. Sync was very easy, just find a good sync point (vocal start).
