Careful. You'll blow the head gasket.

Oh and the VVC develops peak power at just under 7000rpm so its designed to be revved so this isnt thrashing it. I wouldnt sit it on the limiter at longtimes thou

My k-series engine split a liner due to a fault O2 sensor making the engine run lean. causing pre ignition. Not a weakness in the engine.
Most people install the MLS gasket which was designed by landrover. But lotus didnt have an "uprated" one available.
A well maintained 180bhp vvc will last very long.
After the rebuild my engine kept pulling strong for another 10,000 miles before i sold it in the summer and swapped it for another great 1.8 litre b18c5 engined honda integra type r.

got my vi the other week. love it :D

A nice idea, are you aware how fragile the head gaskets are on the tuned K-series? My HG had to be replaced twice on my Vi, the second time they fitted a special extra gasket saver. That's the only reason i sold it. £500 each time! Keep that cooling system in tiptop condition and put a new water pump on when you do the conversion as that going can be a major cause of HG failure. Good luck, post a vid up when it's done!

Ive got the trademark vvc mech on the wayout, going to do a solid cam conversion in the summer would should see 180bhp :) cant wait

Nice car, I sold one last year. Most fun car I've ever owned. Enjoy it!
Well my 200vi blew up at the end of may, So far ive spent the best part of £1000 rebuilding it to have about 175bhp. Reprofiled camshaft and tampered with the VVC timing. Putting it all back together next weekend. Will post some videos of the car with the new more powerful engine soon :)

Yeah i had headgasket failure on my old 1.8 150bhp metro gti. My 200vi is on 40,000 miles at the mo on the original headgasket so its due to go bang. I will do the solid cam conversion and if the head goes pop it will give me a reason to fit the new steel gasket and port the head
