  • John Barrymore as Svengali has to be one of the most fascinating characters ever filmed. Barrymore takes Svengali from frightening to likable to charming to wickedly manipulative. Amazing.

This is definately an under rated movie.

  • @TenderTrap86 I TOTALLY agree with you. It's up there with the absolute cream of horror movies. Barrymore has the same command as Chrisopher Lee - AND he is a better actor.

  • Thanks so much for uploading. These great old flicks are hardly shown any more.

  • Yeah, watched it again the other day. It's becoming one of my all time favs!

  • Thank you so much for taking the time to uploading this movie!!! =)

  • @HumppeB I just recently saw this film again, and I still can't believe how good Barrymore is in this part. I'm really in awe of his acting prowess. He is absolutely stellar as Svengali. :)

If you haven't already, there's a silent version of Jekyll and Hyde starring Barymore, in the title role. I read that he would dislocate his jaw on purpose for the transformation scenes. He was very good in this film, as well. Barrymore's Jekyll is definately a guy I wouldn't want to keep company with. :O
