Flotilla i.mov

In 2008, I made a flotilla of some 220 boats, 92 of which were set adrift beneath the sea ice in Explorers Cove, Antarctica. This clip shows the moment of their release. This forms part of an ongoing ArtScience collaboration I have been involved in with polar biologist Sam Bowser and underwater photographers Shawn Harper and Henry Kaiser. Two short films - 'ICE UP' and "HIDDEN DEPTHS - Poetry for Science - have been completed since this sample footage was shot. The boats that feature in this clip will be taken back down to Explorers Cove this year (2010) so that a different sequence can be filmed.
