It was an early type B fitted with the 256Mb Hynix memory. It is possible to run this on a Type A which is also 256Mb but as there is no ethernet it must be used wirelessly and this isn't ideal for video.

Hi, this wasn't a straightforward install, would recommend you use Raspbmc. Just do a search using Google.

Nice video! Quick question, if you have a NAS on a gigabit network will steam 1080p on the pi?

Thanks ! Yes it should be possible. Depending on the format the files are stored in you may need to purchase the relevant codecs. The details of how to do this are on the Raspberry Pi website. These allow XBMC to decode MPEG2 and VC1 streams. All current type B Pi production is 512Mb which probably helps performance too.

Those speakers! So many of my friends had a set of those terrible, terrible chinese speakers years ago. How old are those? 20 year? Blast from the past!

I think they are around 20 years old and in regular use, we used to sell them at RS and they were sourced through our Taiwan office !

Hi, yes it will stream video from a NAS drive and you can even use a Pi iteself as a NAS drive with a suitable external hard drive (powered) or USB stick attached. :o)

I love the idea of Raspberry Pi.. I will be buying mine from RS very soon.. Quick question first though; Can I play videos from NAS Drives? I have 2 D-Link DNS-320 and would really like to replace my HTPC, it's loud and noisy. Thanks :)
