Woke up at the break O' dawn saw frost all around the lake
realize the cold is headin in and there's a move that I gotta make

Summer is leavin the station, ole Autumn's startin to fall
got the urge to feel sand in my shoes, the road is whisprin' it's old sweet call
Harvest moon jus been and went the Hunter's moon is just about to climb

the tree's green leaves are changin color turnin' yellow,orange, red, and brown
that old man winter is pushin in, thinkin of pullin out and coverin some ground
as beautiful this season is I got to move befo I'm blowin frost outta my breathe
I'm gettin this urge startin ta thinkin bout headin south west

dropped in to say goodby to my compadres, pals and friends
can't say that I won't be back but I can tell ya that I don't know when
dream of the hearin' that ocean, want to breathe that salty brine

I'm just a man with no master plan for my journey down the road

Well it seems these boots don't grow no roots cuz they march to a distant drum
