I asked the library administrator of the state university that I attend what a library was about. It's not about intellectual work, i.e. perspiration. It's about building a community and providing a gathering place for people to do business and to socialize. There is no ambiguity. Libraries are for gaggles of common sense people who just want to get out of traffic and into buildings with rooms and chairs where joshing, haggling, goofing, posturing, and kicking back are the norm, not exceptions.
