Above all, Ball Four is a very funny book. It is well written and hard to put down. At the end of this video segment, a bitter and jealous Roger Kahn says Ball Four isn't worth much as literature. Yet the book was selected as one of the 100 most important books of the 20th century. As professional a writer as Kahn is, he isn't as naturally entertaining as Bouton, and he may not be as talented a writer, either.

Kuhn and Kahn are form another era, and they don't get Ball Four. IThe book has it's place in baseball culture and American culture. Never gone out of print. Most of all, every word in it is the truth.

Kahn first said that Ball Four changed sports reporting, but then went on to say Ball Four didn't have much value as literature. Sounds like a contradiction to me.
