SUMMARY
This shows a view looking south from Madison Square, across the intersection of Broadway, Fifth Avenue, and Twenty-third Street, to the famous Fuller (or "Flatiron") Building. The cameraman elevates his camera, going from street level to the roof. Designed by D.H. Burnham and Company, the Fuller Building is an important early skyscraper and a New York City landmark. Known as the first great steel-framed building, the exterior of the lower three stories is stone, with the remainder clad in terra cotta. Twenty-one stories high, it is considered the first tall building erected north of city hall. Its completion in 1902 marked the beginning of New York City's first skyscraper era.

  • The last time I was there (2005) there was a Sprint mobile phone store on the bottom floor. Not sure if it's still there.

  • What's inside of it? Stores? Offices?

  • All of the above.

  • i see dead people walking

  • Great building! After hearing about it and seeing old photos I found it by accident on a recent trip to NYC. How everything around it has changed.

  • If you can believe it, they use to have a cop stationed all the time around that building because guys use to hang around there and get off because the wind coming off the building use to blow up the womens skirts. Also, the buildings back then where so low they said you could see the flatiron building from Central Park which is almost 40 blocks away. Today you can`t see more than a block. This is all before skyscrapers.

  • Was his last name Iron and became flat after the accident?

  • Yes, most pll now dress like slugs.

  • my great grandfather hurt himself pretty bad building the Flatiron. When I walk past it every time, I think of his contribution.

  • It is still there... ha

  • They wouldn't have been clean as people didn't bathe very often in those days.

  • Ah soooo...
