The black discs on the hut on the pier were to help the piermaster direct the steamers and whether they could berth or not.

It's a pity that they cannot find a consort for the wonderful Waverley for operation on the Clyde , maybe someone could negotiate some sort of deal for the MV Saturn after her long service with Calmac. She would almost certainly pull in the passengers.

Fascinating stuff. Duchess of Hamilton arriving at Largs is 1965 or later as she has the monastral blue hull. Waverley is from about 1970 as she has the lions but has reverted to the black hull. PSPS finally persuaded CalMac to paint her paddle boxes black not long after this. Actually - looking again, I wonder if her hull is not the same blue - in which case, between 1965 and 1970.
