Double Trap Crystal Radio Set

A trap in line on the same form as antenna and another inside the detector coil. Works quite well and gets a lot of DX. Bathroom roll forms with 365Pf variables. Professor Coil to figure out what the turns of wire your going to need to hit the frequency you want. This is the set you may have seen earlier on a wood base without the second wave trap.

Will you be making one for the shortwave bands? I would like to try doing it soon if I can get enough magnet wire at Radio Shack. The long wave band is not available for me to experiment with due to noise in the apartment. I would like to learn more on construction for the AM and then the SW bands.

i'm just starting out with crystal sets and have some questions please.

do wave traps funnel more power(RF) to the detector because you are tuned to 2 or more frequencies.....thaks heaps

@doona42 The wave traps blocks out a section of the band. You can block a strong station that might be interfering with another station you would like to hear.

DX is long distance or international as opposed to local contact. Wave traps are tuned circuits that present a low impedance at its resonant frequency and will allow signals at that frequency to pass through that branch of the circuit to ground potential thereby taking their energy out of the signal path to the detector.
