The first episode in our Cold Process series covers Lye safety and the most common ingredients used to make Cold Process Soap. Since Lye can be a dangerous and caustic chemical, Anne-Marie has devoted an entire episode to the safety precautions and proper use of Lye. She also covers some of her favorite ingredients and their properties in soap.

In future episodes Anne-Marie will explain the process of saponification and other important terms as well as how to use fragrances and colorants. After watching the first 4 episodes of our 'How to Make Cold Process' series you will be prepared to make your first successful and safe batch of soap! Can't wait? then check out her Cold Process DVD here http://www.brambleberry.com/Learn-To-Make-Cold-Process-Soap-DVD-1-DVD-P3591.aspx

  • I'm 17, I spent my Sunday watching these. I love soap and now I want to make it <3

  • @TheLunaMing I started making soap when I was 16 - so you're in good company! Thank you so much for the sweet comment, it means so much to hear that I've inspired you. Happy Soaping! Anne-Marie

  • how come ur not alowed lye on ur skin but in ur soap?its going to touch ur skin anyway

  • @SuperSuperpuppylove As I try to explain in the video when you make soap correctly there won't be any lye present. A chemical reaction happens (saponification) and that is how soap is made!

  • Really great videos! Thanks for doing them. I'm new to soap and it's nice to have something to watch. :) Love your personality! Comes out in your videos!

  • @corrihar Thanks so much. That's great to hear.

  • I'm scared to eat chicken now XD

  • I've used 'soap calc pro' designed for Iphone and Ipad. There are oils qualities on this calc. First I used free version, but the autobalancing option on pro version is great. Try this, I've found it quite usefull, you can find it on appstore.

  • Hi Soap Queen,

I really like your videos. You make saponification so approachable!

However your Lye flakes looked uncontrolled falling out of the bottle.

Otto Salzer, my High School science teacher, taught us this tip for decanting powders: As you tilt the container also "roll" it so the solid pours out of the container's mouth in a smoother more predictable stream. No clumps, no overshoot!

  • This is so scary :[ but it reminds me of Fight Club :D

  • never mind i'll do melt an pour lol

  • Hey Anne-Marie, is Cold Process Soap better than regular glycerin (melt and pour) soap? Some of them says that CP soaps are better because glycerin doesn't hydrate your skin enough and essential oils from glycerin soap fades quickly, so as their color? I think that glycerin soap are better!
