Wheels are a dynamic pushup variation that is quite helpful in building explosive strength. The athlete in the video performs them over a distance of 40'.

An article detailing their performance is available here:

The Xtreme Rings which have been used to build much of this athlete's strength are available here:

  • Posture is extremely important in gymnastics. In fact with younger developing athletes, I will spend 15 to 20 minutes per day utilizing special exercises to develop their bodyline.

  • do athletes like this guy do wiehgt training in a gym or does the look of the body come from the exercises you do there (like push up variations ,pull ups etc)

  • The physiques of all my athletes are the result of gymnastics strength training. If you want to look like a gymnast, you must train like a gymnast :)

  • is that a frisbee youre using to slide?

  • Yes, he is using a frisbee to reduce friction on his feet.

  • wouldn't this put strain on his lower back?

  • Only if the athlete is not strong enough to perform this particular exercise.

  • Watching this I cannot help but to feel ashamed that when I was his age I wasted my time with video games. I could have been involved in gymnastics. Well done, young man!

  • Not as easy as it seems! Must add those in my trainings :)

  • Coach Sommer, do you feel posture is very important to prevent injury for your athletes? Do you encourage them to have proper posture throughout their daily activities?

  • Crazy kids... I can hear my shoulder popping just thinking of doing this

  • i wish i had shoulder flexibility like this, i have fucking kyphosis, i cant move mar hand over my head without arching my back : (((

  • @demontoarch quite a bit harder without water it transpires!

  • @Ge4rsofWar In Gymnastics you build strength moistly through bodyweight exercises. You can almost always put your muscles at a disadvantage causing a simple bodyweight exercise to become harder. Also using your bodyweight develops more functional strength than weight training but at a high level weights can be used to increase the difficulty of bodyweight training :)

  • @HankLafayette You could do both :P

  • Not as easy as he makes it look -- gymnast RULE
