Well I was aiming to make it more of an actual Mario platformer instead of the kind of game play you got in the original.

Well, it's certainly better than the first game, but that's not saying much. Even the text is fuzzed due to being the wrong format, and I don't think I remember sprites without transparent backgrounds, even in the first game.
