Hardi Plank is good for well in excess of 100mph winds if put on correctly.
I'm installing some 12" x 12' Hardi Board siding Saturday. I'm just using it on the lower 2 courses on my old house and using the 12" smooth hardboard to fix the upper areas.

If you install the siding improperly you will get poor results.
People bag on Hardi Plank but where are all the comments dealing with the
TOTAL SHIT PRODUCT known as: MASONITE SIDING?
Many people that install siding are really clueless as to what they are doing

I worked on a construction job in northern AZ. as a plumber, the siding contractors installed this product, the first big wind storm appox. 50 mph winds blew them all loose on one side of the house. I was the only one working at the site @ the time, after that I knew not to buy this product, I sided my house w/ 5/8" T-111 plywood siding, it stands up to the elements for the past 20 years, repaint approx evey 6 years.

DO NOT BELIEVE THESE GUYS. JAMES HARDIE FIBER CEMENT BOARD HAS DELAMINATION (layers to separate) PROBLEM AND JAMES HARDIE WARRANTY WILL NOT COVER. DURING THE INSTALLATION OF JH BOARDS THEY STARTED TO DELAMINATE. I CALLED JH AND THEIR SALESMAN CAME ADMITTED THE PROBLEM BUT WARRANTY DEPT SAYS Home Depot IS RESPONSIBLE. STAY A WAY FROM JH FIBER CEMENT BOARDS, THEY ARE DEFECTIVE. WILL SEND PICS OF DEFECTIVE PRODUCTS TO ANYONE WHO WISH TO SEE, WILL BE LAUNCHING A WEB TO WARN PEOPLE SOON.
