After seven years of intensive works, the EuroMed Market Programme, launched in 2002 with the aim to contribute to the establishment of the Euro-Mediterranean Free Trade Area by 2010, celebrated its Final Conference in Barcelona (ES) on 28- 29 April 2009. The main objective of this programme of industrial cooperation between the European Union and its Mediterranean Partners was to contribute to the adoption of a number of measures aimed at supporting the future free trade area: a shared interpretation of the rules; legislative approximation, adoption of common regulations, procedures and standards between the Mediterranean partners and the EU Member States. Another objective was to establish monitoring structures and bodies in order to support exchanges. The priority areas of the EU Internal Market covered by the programme were: Free Movement of Goods; Customs, Taxation and Rules of origin; Public Procurement; Intellectual Property Rights; Auditing and Accounting; Protection of Personal Data and e-Commerce; Competition Rules; and Financial Services. In total, more than 3000 MEDA participants took part in the 138 activities organised under programme. (For more information, visit the website: www.euromedmarket.org)
