I'm not even that big of a Sex Pistols or PIL fan, and I do think Johnny Rotten is kind of a dick, but his basic message is great here. Rock n Roll IS too structured, and IS too often associated with labels rather than creativity and humanity.

Tom Snyder was smart, literate, and very well prepared for his shows. Lydon is also smart, but he made the fool's mistake of thinking Snyder was as dumb as he looked.

It would have been hilarious to see Lydon in a panel discussion with real thoughtful musicians, like Weller and Strummer. They'd thoughtfully talk about their craft and he'd sit there with his thumb up his butt trying to get attention by acting petulant.

@2wierd2live2rare2die He is laying on his public persona pretty thick here and also seems to have some serious road burn/ tour exhaustion and also on something or other (what's with the watery eyes him and Keith have?) but this is a good view. Lydon and Snyder later made amends.

@WhenWorldsCollide91 While I'm not sure about Snyder "falling" for anything (he'd seen an awful lot by then and he didn't have many alternatives other than to sit there and play the hand he was dealt), I agree with the remainder of your post. I don't see Lydon as particularly thoughtful as an artist, though. As an entrepreneur, though, he's very good.

@mvonwahlde You may have a point here, but I'd like to see it another way: This appearance by both Lydon and Levene was a show, put up to create a public image (there's my sound bite...) of PIL. Keith Levene as being the depressive yet creative kind of guitarist and Lydon as being the obstreperous, cheeky and indifferent band leader. And Tom Snyder totally fell for that. That's the way I'd see it, what do you think?
