have you ever tried the fourteen-minute version from the 1969 Appleton album (bootleg) featuring Ruth Komanoff (before she married Ian Underwood) on marimba ! this one is the absolute best !
King Kong is really a 1:00 tune with a bunch of other stuff thrown in. I wouldn't call this the worst version. The worst version I've heard is the composite "slow reggae" version on "You Can't Do That On Stage Anymore Vol. 3." But I agree, super-sped up takes away any feeling. Patrick O'Hearn's bass solo is the obvious highlight of this version. The original 1968 version probably is the best overall. It's all about tempo. Take them all and make your own composite version. That's what Zappa did.
'thumbs up' for putting (audio) on you video name... thank you... also great version of song...

Patrick O' Hearn's bass solo is a take on David Bowie's "Fame".

@IncaRoad01
I don't know....and I do like the Mothers, but the 1968 line up wouldn't have been able to play something like this...
But to each is own....If I may, I wouldn't discard any of them....

I will probably get told where to go for saying iths, put perhaps this is the worst version I have heard!
My favourite still has to be the 1968 BBC version. It's all good ... but it absolutely rocks once it kicks off from about 1:45.
